Re: migrating to victoria from ireland

1. You need to check out the international section of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council. www.anmc.org.au
2. Each state has its own registration/licencing authority. Victoria's is http://www.nbv.org.au/
3. Rates of pay in the public sector can be found at http://www.health.vic.gov.au/__data/...eed_feb_08.pdf . Page 49 has the base rates of pay; we also get penalties, which if you are really eager, you should be able to find in that document. RNs are RN division 1 in Victoria

Hope this is helpful

Re: migrating to victoria from ireland

I don't know about Ireland but we hear HORROR stories from the NHS from nurses who've escaped.
Victoria has some of the best nursing conditions in Australia, the base pay rate might not be the highest but we have legislated nurse-patient ratios which the ANF and Victorian nurses fought tooth and nail to keep when the EBA was up last year.
This means that in an acute ward they legally have to have a minimum number of nurses and can't ask you to take on extra patients when someone calls in sick. For every 20 acute patients on a general ward there are 5 nurses - so 4 patients (during the day).
This is in the public hospital system, the private system is not required to do this. The public hospital system is also governed by the pay rates in the document linked in the above post - the private hospitals may pay less.
Anyway in general, nurses are underpaid everywhere in the world but Australia is not a bad place to work and the public health system isn't perfect but it works.

Re: migrating to victoria from ireland

With six years of experience your hourly rate will be $26.75 if you work where there aren't ADOs, $25.41 if there are (a paid extra day off every four weeks); on top of that there's weekend, PM and night loading, 17.5% leave loading (or the average over the last four weeks, whichever's higher), and if you have relevant post grad qualifications you'll also be eligible for a qualification allowance (the amount depends on the level of qualification).
Casual nurse at 6 years out earn $33.4375/hr, $50.1563 for weekends.
I'm working with an Irish nurse tonight - if she's interested in joining allnurses (and how could she not be?!) I'll get her to give you a first hand account; otherwise I'll post a second hand account myself!
