Faculty Shortage?

Just curious. I am about to finish my MSN in preparation to teach here in the US. We have a severe shortage of faculty only to become worse as more retire. What is the market like in Aus/NZ for nursing faculty? I have always wanted to go there for a while and work. Are faculty needed?

Thanks-

Re: Faculty Shortage?

Yes, like the US, the average age of a nurse here is 45 years of age. When you say 'faculty' you are referring to nurses in general?

However just like when Australian nurses go to the US, there are different requirements when US nurses come to Oz. Check out www.anmc.org.au

Re: Faculty Shortage?

I assume she means "faculty" ie. university professors. Yes, there is a shortage of doctorally-trained faculty. Not sure that there is a shortage of masters-prepared nurses, perhaps you could contact some universities and ask?

Some I can think of: Deakin University, Monash University, University of Sydney, LaTrobe university...

Re: Faculty Shortage?

Thank you both! Yes, I did mean school faculty. Thanks for the names, I will check into it. I can teach at most universities here with a masters, but won't get tenure. That's fine with me because I don't think I'll stay in the same place that long.

To check which universities in Australia run nursing programs go to www.goodguides.com.au and fill in the appropriate sections - it'll give you a list of every undergraduate and graduate nusing program and (therefore) every institution with a nursing faculty.
Good luck!
