Bullying in Class

Hi guys

I've posted this in the student forum as weel, just thought because I'm an Aussie I'd post it here too!

I had a situation in class yesterday where i was the victim of bullying by a number of other students. Briefly, they were making fun of my level of class participation. It was not in fun - it was nasty!

I have a class presentation due next week and am considering making class bullying my subject. The tutor has been advised.

So, all you students and new graduates out there, I'm doing a survey on whether you've been bullied in class and, if so, how did you deal with it?

I'm hoping that I can get my message accross to these people without having to involve the Institute and without confrontation.

I would appreciate your input.

Re: Bullying in Class

I have to say that this has never been a problem with any of my classes, and I'm in my last semester. With all of the stress and the struggles of nursing school, we have become more like a family. I feel as comfortable with my classmates as I do sitting down with my own family. We even meet on days off and go shopping or out to eat together with various class members. I'm so sorry that you're having this problem. One thing that may be different with our classes is that most of my class members are nontraditional students. It would seem that the level of maturity might have a lot to do with it. I'm not sure that I've been any help, but I really hope that you get this resolved. These are people that you are going to be spending a great deal of time with. You get to see each other at their best and their worst. With everything else you have to deal with in nursing school, bullying should be the last thing on anyone's mind.

Re: Bullying in Class

Yes, the sad thing is that these people are mature aged students who already have some from of experience in the industry. The average age is mid to late 30's

Re: Bullying in Class

I have never experienced bullying in my nursing class and i too consider it to be like my family. We help eachother out with assignments, vent about nursing challenges and enjoy eachothers company.
I am so sorry that you have had to experience that.
Do you think that doing your presentation on bullying will help the situation or give them more to hassle you about? I sincerely hope that you can overcome this situation.
Nursing school is indeed a fun time and its sad that you arent experiencing this right now.
All the best!
