Buddhism Vs SJOG

Hi everyone,

Its probably sad but I'm very excited about a job interview I have next week as a PCA at SJOG. My question is... as it is a Catholic organisation and I am a buddhist - will that be held against my chances of being employed? I dont know what I should answer when the inevitable religious question arises.

Cheers for any insight,

BG

There shouldn't BE any questions about your religion! And if there is; ask them could they please explain how your faith is relevant to how you practise as a health care worker?

Wishing you all the best.

I worked in a Catholic institution briefly, and there was no problem other than referring out for abortion information.

I did find it funny that they had a crucifix in every room except the bathrooms. Some of those old ladies really could have used a hand getting a good clean catch specimen.

Cheers Grace and Canoehead,

I was going to mention the compassionate nature of buddhism if it got mentioned but fingers crossed it wont!! Canoe - I'll have a look in the bathroom (if i get the job!) and see if they've made specimen catching easier

Thanks heaps for replying

The Catholic Church is very friendly to Buddhaism and has very positive relations, and shares many common goals and philosophies, including a strong monastic tradition.

Hi,

It is worth checking out their mission statement, they may ask if you support their mission statement.

But they won't mention religion,

Good luck for your interview,

Re: Buddhism Vs SJOG

Hi Joanne,

Yes they mentioned their mission and vision statement and said that we will be asked to support it. I have no problem with that at all. It really comes down to the patients and the care they receive and regardless of faith we all want whats best for the patient

jlsRN - thankyou for the pic of the Dali Lama and the Pope - it certainly put my mind at ease.

Thankyou all for your replies,

BG

Re: Buddhism Vs SJOG

Hi Darius,

I had the interview, there was no questions asked about religion at all. I was asked to support their mission statement but that wasn't a problem as its all about caring and respecting the individual. I have been working their since October last year and am really enjoying the job. I'm working on the Orthopaedic ward so its really busy going to and from theatre and helping roll the patients. Its helped heaps with my nursing studies. The rate of pay isn't the best but I make up for that by working afternoon shifts.

I'm loving it!!
