Re: Are Students Protesting HESI??

Sorry, but if you can't pass the HESI, then chances are that your school was deficient in teaching you the skills that you need to pass-and therefore become a nurse.

That's not a negative comment, it's the truth.
And yes, HESI is a cumulative exam.

The more standards, the better.

This is so old.

I agree with a quarter of your comment. Looking back, that is the reason why our nursing program used HESI, for punitive reasons. Instead of taking accountability for their deficiencies, we literally took the butt of it. That is malicious and deceptive. What are you trying to say? That other nursing programs who did not utilize HESI and the students who passed their NCLEX is substandard? Do you consider those nurses incompetent?
I am just trying to understand your mindset. No offense.

If you feel this topic is "so old" than may I suggest that you don't bait?" I see you are a premium member here, therefore I know that you are aware that this site is based on being supportive and finding knowledge within. I am sure you are an excellent nurse. We have our license. Let's try and be helpful, and be supportive. Why can't help these students get theirs?
Remember what mom's say, "If you can't say nothing nice, don't say nothing at all." Again, no offense.
You have the knowledge and years of experience. These students at times need to vent, or maybe even whine, if thats what you call it. Nursing school is stressful/emotional enough. Let's stay humble. Part of being a nurse is "Teaching." So, lets do that.

I am trying to turn my traumatized years of nursing school to positive ones. Like, meeting my classmates, and clinical instructors. That is what I will focus on. POSITIVE, so that all those unbearable years in nursing school will be soon gone.

PEACE

Changing the topic....
I just found out that myclassmates who passed HESI, failed her NCLEX for the second time. I don't know why she decided to take it over so soon.

Anyway, so far, out of us three who made it. I passed NCLEX the first time, one passed it after the second time. The other has not passed it yet.
The one who has not passed it yet, had the highest score of us three.
Go figure, HESI.

Anyway, for $9000.00 plus more dollars, a few of my classmates decided they will repeat second year and their grades will be audited. Once, they pass/complete the courses, they can take HESI one more time.

A few did seek an attorney, which I am financially contributing to. I can't tell them what to do. But, I can be supportive of what they are going through.

I am hoping that someone here, is familiar with knowing how to access the instructors website on facebook? Any information is greatly appreciated.

PEACE EVERYONE

STAY HUMBLE

Too bad. I get to say what I want just as you do. If you don't like it then you don't have to respond...

Re: Are Students Protesting HESI??

I will be praying fyou or each and everyday until you let us know how it went.

Keep your head up.

Don't be afraid to get up if there is a question that you are stuck in.
Walk around, stretch your legs.

Don't forget to breath. Practice your breathing technique.

What I do? I try to find a happy place in my head, when I need that break. Make sure you don't spend over forty minutes sitting there before taking a break.

I am at work. Kinda of quiet here, right now. Walk away from people who you see are stressing out. Don't need that kind of negative energy. Don't read anything the night before or on the way there.

Good
Luck

Peace

Re: Are Students Protesting HESI??

Your school has options other than making someone repeat more school. Schools can use Hesi in ways it was not intended.

Too bad there isn't some kind of remediation or something. Sometimes it's not the knowledge base but maybe more in test-taking skills. One student in our class is a classic case of this. She knows the material but she doubts herself and will talk herself out of the right answer. If you talk to her one-on-one, she knows it. You see her grade and you'd never know it.

Another thing is confidence. I'm leary of the way your school is handling this issue. So your students will risk another year of their life, another $9,000 in hopes of that one more test chance? And then what?! This may or may not be addressing the problem/s. Even NCLEX allows you to retake it every 45 days.

Re: Are Students Protesting HESI??

I'm sure you've studied your butt off, but don't forget to LET Jesus take the wheel. I think you might have already taken it, as this was from yesterday, but I'm still praying

This is to the "back and forths" out there, nobody in particular - at least y'all have a "know no better just starting out" student who will certainly be on top of what is expected of me. Thanks for that!

I don't care how many/what kinds of tests they give me, I'll either know it or I won't. If I don't, then maybe I'm not meant to be a nurse. But I'm a ways off, I'm just now learning algebra LOL and trying to keep all A's in all my classes til I get there, then I'll have to see what's meant to be.

I may sound crazy, and I'm NOT saying anybody shouldn't be a nurse, but maybe you could go on to teach; you certainly know what your teachers did WRONG and I bet you'd be awesome at teaching what students DO need to know . . . as long as you don't let the school stats run your teaching like they may have. Course if it weren't for school stats, financial aid and transfer contracts would be out the window . . . watcha gonna do.

Thank you so much for that reminder. Its okay to disagree with someone, but its never okay to have such destructive comments when doing so.
I had enough of those from nursing school.
I think its always best to stay humble and remember where you came from
Nurisng school was difficult enough, and I understand that at times students need to vent, instead of being judged and minimized.
I had wished that I found this site years, ago. There are so some many supportive colleagues here. Even though ones thoughts differs from yours doesn't mean that person is less smarter than you.

Nursing is a team effort.

Thanks Angie!
