Re: How Long Can Work as GN before ............

Where I live it is 90 days or until you pass/fail your NCLEX and you can function as a full RN during that 90 days - there are no restrictions or limitations.

Neighboring state does not allow you to work until you pass NCLEX as a RN, however you can work as a Nurse Extern but you are not allowed to give meds or do anything invasive (IV's for example) until you pass your NCLEX.

You need to check with your SBON

Re: How Long Can Work as GN before ............

Traumrus is right, check with your BON. In my state, it is 1 year. However, I had to sign a contract with my hospital saying I would take NCLEX within 3 months of hire. Those that went straight into critical care (pricier internship) had to sign to take it within 2 months (although they really held them to 3 months).

The earlier you take it the better. It is such a weight lifted when you've taken those boards. I was the second person in my class to take it and I was soooo glad to have it overwith.
