Looking back to 4 years ago, I don't know what i would have done without Sasha, my dog. She knew i was sick and never left my side. Hope this helps.

Re: Why Dogs Make the Best Friends

Female, former NICU nurse, now SAHM. I've always had dogs, never had cats, and have no interest in them. They seem too "aloof". I love an animal who is excited to see me and wants to keep me company. I have a 5 year-old Bouvier (100lb. cattle herding dog). He's calm, loving and gentle, although not very bright!

Re: Why Dogs Make the Best Friends

I forgot to mention that he doesn't shed. My kids are allergic to rodents, so a guinea pig was out of the question. I have a 100lb. dog instead.

I could spin yarn (if the fibers were long enough) from the dog 'tumbleweeds.'

Re: Why Dogs Make the Best Friends

Female critical care nurse. Two dogs, one cat.
We used to have two cats.
We had chickens until a few years ago. When I was a kid I even taught a hen to do tricks one summer.

I will have a dog and cat on the bed with me. DH will not have animals in the bed.
