I like you and Dutchgirl also take my daughter when I vote. My husband even takes here with him to attend various meetings related to issues affecting our community, i.e. discussion of federal relief aid with drought, sale of the local farmer's co-op, etc. So far, she has met one state representative, a congressmen and several local officials.
I also, obtain a sample copy of the official ballot and discuss with her who is running for what office that I'll be voting for and what their jobs are. She's even sat with me while I reviewd voting records.
I think the reluctance to vote by many, particularly the younger age groups is mostly due to unfamiliarity with the process. That and like others have stated here, they feel their vote doesn't count...
