I have not had a good voting record; I voted in '92, '96 and not again until this year. I think I will go more often because our precinct is very small and it was in and out to vote at 8am after I got off work. Things didn't really go my way but I refused to vote for any Democrats or Republicans. I'm in a 3rd party kind of mood.

I have voted every year since I was 18. & Yep my kids come with me. (Mostly because they are to young to stay home alone.)

After the last presidential elections, I felt that way too..But recently, I got my faith in my vote back. There were primaries for senator in my state some months back. One of the candidates was a mayor of my town and was a real jerk. Very cocky, didn't bring people together, very arrogant. He's a republican, which doesn't mean anything. I only mention it because I'm Independent-I don't vote a straight party line. The other guy is a republican too but will not necessarily vote with his party-he's very much his own man. Well, the candidate that was arrogant lost because of people who did what I did. Went to the polling place, voted in the republican primary and then disaffiliated. According to our local news, many people felt strongly enough that that guy would have been bad news as senator. Our votes DID count. It was kind of neat.

I like you and Dutchgirl also take my daughter when I vote. My husband even takes here with him to attend various meetings related to issues affecting our community, i.e. discussion of federal relief aid with drought, sale of the local farmer's co-op, etc. So far, she has met one state representative, a congressmen and several local officials.

I also, obtain a sample copy of the official ballot and discuss with her who is running for what office that I'll be voting for and what their jobs are. She's even sat with me while I reviewd voting records.

I think the reluctance to vote by many, particularly the younger age groups is mostly due to unfamiliarity with the process. That and like others have stated here, they feel their vote doesn't count...

Just think of the turn-out we would have had if everybody that thought their vote wouldn't count, had voted!!
Of course they count. That doesn't mean that one will always get what they want, but unless you live in Florida, or Ohio, your vote counted.

a difference of 7231 votes. 2411 precincts. divide the difference in votes by the number of precincts.

7231/2411=2.99 votes per precinct difference. in each precinct, if 3 more people had voted for george allen, he could have won. so we should never think our vote doesn't count. soyou are darn straight i always vote!

I voted in the election, but was surprized at the number of my co workers that said they have never voted. They all said the same thing, that it wouldn't make a difference if they did. I couldn't believe it.. so only 8% voting is probably accurate. This is something that needs to change in 2 years when the presidential election is here. Encourage your co workers to register to vote.. So many of my fellow nurses haven't even registered... Sad.
