Re: theft of my scope

In all, probably 5-6. At most, maybe 7- in 17 years. Not fun. But the Littman was a bit more painful. I had it less than a year, as I recall. I buy mostly cheaper ones now.

So far none. Probably because people i work with know if anyone takes my Littmann, I'll bite them.

My husband won't even touch my stethoscope if i bring it home, he knows how protective i am of it lol.

Re: theft of my scope

I only ever had one taken and that was when i worked in neuro and we used a nursing office so had a lot of floating nurses on the unit. Funny thing was when i changed units 6 years later I found the dang thing in the clean utility room in a cupboard with my name still on it.

Re: theft of my scope

I've had a few taken over the years of my career! I "lost" several of them early in my career-to residents or attendings who "borrowed" them, then never returned them. I stopped that by buying a bright pink stethescope. At that time, more residents and attendings were male, and wouldn't be caught dead with a bright pink stethescope! <g>
Now I am in home care, it's less likely to be misplaced or taken. However, a few years back, I forgot to put my expensive Littman cardiology back in my bag as I usually do. The patient was a teenager, whose sister was planning to go into nursing school and showed a lot of interest in my stethescope-asked a lot of questions about it. When I arrived home, I realized I didn't put the stethescope back in the back, and drove back to the pt's home to get it, since I knew they were moving the next day and had no phone, and I figured I would never see it again. A few blocks from their house, a teenager sped through a stop sign in a school zone as kids were being released from the elementary school and broadsided me. He crumpled my SUV with a tiny sports car, he was going so fast. Luckily, I was not critically hurt, and no kids were hurt (he hit me instead, and I would have done exactly what I did all over again if it meant that no kids would get hurt). However, my stethescope was long gone by then. I had to buy another one.

Re: theft of my scope

The one my dad gave me when I graduated from college I keep at home because he died 4 years ago and it can not be replaced. I know it doesn't get used much (just for when I have a sick family member) but I don't care, I would be heart broken if it got stolen.

I just use the cheap ones they have on the supply carts at work.
