I graduated from nursing school at 35. But I was not the oldest in my class. The oldest was 48 year old female that was and is the abosultley best with her patients. Age does not matter in Nursing and love...

When I graduated from nursing school, I was 31, but I was not the oldest in the class....the oldest in our class was around the age of 55. Age and maturity is the key. I am not discounting youth, but holding up age.

I just graduated this year and I am 24. I did go to college right after high school. It was and wasn't my decision. Let me explain.. I felt that I was pressured into it by my parents.. You know.. wanting to please them and for them to be proud of me. Well it didn't work out. Later after I grew up and I decided when I was ready to let school be a top priority in my life, I did it. So I think that it doesn't matter what a age a person should go into nursing, I think it should be whenever that person feels it is right. Just my opinion.

I think it's about attitude, not age. I went in to nursing studies after highschool -- so I'm glad I didn't wait. I admit that starting in the business as a 21 year old forced me to grow up pretty fast. It can be very daunting to be in charge of a bunch of staff members who are twice your age. It is a job that requires emotional maturity -- although this does not necessarily accompany age. Some of my favorite co-workers went into nursing late in life and they are definately suited to the work.
