I don't think there is a comparison, a nurse is a nurse. Male....female.....alien......doesn't matter as long as they are a caring, competent, trustworthy, hardworking, physically capable individual they have my vote.

UAP is "unlicensed assistive personnel"

usually used in place of licensed nurses. Bad. Very bad.

I agree with all of what Suzy K has said! A good nurse is a good nurse regardless of gender! And I want an RN taking care of me in the hospital!

I think that is a really bad disscussion for your instructors to have brought up.
No one gender is better then the other and I think that many of the other posters are right this detracts from the real issues in nursing......
as long as we wag after each other's tails no real progress will be made......

I had a male instructor in my BSN program, He was mighty pleased when I wrote a paper on men in nursing. The history is really interesting stuff. Males were the first nurses.

and in "war" who are the medics??????? men......okay, maybe now women and men........but men okay.........

and micro is a woman(?????) last I looked.........

I also thought we were past all that......but guess what if nurses eat our young, racism still exists, terrorism is terrorism.....then surprise there is still the prejudics and war of the sexes!!!!!!!!!

personally if I or any of my loved ones are sick enough to need medical attention I want the 'bestest' nurses and doctors and respiratory therapists, etc. to take care of me/them.........
male, female, alien, I don't care.........

????? at recent public cpr class, humility and is there any difference of giving chest compressions between women or men.......you know the old women have breasts concept...........

gee.........kinda cute since ?????came from nonmedical person middle age guy trying to respect ladies modesty...........

but my response was if I am dead, it doesn't matter.......if you find me out cold and you need to bare the chest do it......I am not going to remember anyway.....and if you save my life I am going to kiss you on the cheek at least and so will my husband.........

I am not a nudist, but give me a break, if I need medical care, give me medical care!!!!!!!!!!!!

;-/
