Re: How many hours would you work?

I too would work more than just 8 hours a week. For all the reasons above and to keep busy. I do volunteer (volunteer fireman and I run the food pantry at my church) and I keep pretty busy now.

Re: How many hours would you work?

8 hours.

I prefer to spend all my spare time with my family. I work not to make it so much, as to get the "extras" like athletic gear for the kids, paying for field trips, the kids' bible camps, our vacations, etc. I am fortunate in that my dh makes a pretty good amt, with his current job and military retirement pay combined. We have all we need plus. I pretty much keep it to one shift/week to keep myself current, get out of the house and spend time with other adults, and pay for the extras for the kids and our family. I am happy to spend all the rest of my time taking care of the home and my kids---Lord willing I will be able to add one more to the family to care for, yes, I am so ready for one more baby.......I am what Steph has said all along: A SAHM wannabe.

I agree with the above....the politics of nursing gets under my skin at times and even though I love what I do, I am thankful for my time off and would work less if given the chance....just to keep my sanity LOL. I work out of necessity and would love to be able to say I work just because I love helping people, but that simply isn't the entire truth....it comes down to having to pay the bills each month and this is how it gets done.

If it would get the job done to work only 8 hrs a week I would do it in a hot minute....think about all the other good things I could do in the meantime? Volunteer, take mission trips, work on our house....etc

Probably 16 or 24. I don't want to just make ends meet. I'd like to start a nest egg. Besides, I'd probably get bored sitting around by myself. I'm a bookstore addict so I'd need to work more to support my habit.

Re: How many hours would you work?

Really, my dream is to do what Steph does. Volunteer my skills and time in other places in the world. Working for money is great and all----but that would fulfill me. IF I were in the position financially and my kids were grown, that is what I would prefer spending my time doing.

Re: How many hours would you work?

I would commit to 8 hours then work prn depending on what I wanted to do and save the money for say a vacation ....then i could just schedule the vacation and take all the time off I needed i.e. I could then take 1 pto day and have 13 days off.

Re: How many hours would you work?

I think I'd still work 40 hours a week. I enjoy what I do and I'd get bored if I had to much time off. .

Re: How many hours would you work?

I chose nursing because of the love first, the money part comes last. So I will certainly work more than 8 hours, maybe 8hr shift x 3. If I don't need the money, then I would volunteer or take the money and donate it.
