Our New Grad Rotations sound like they are different to the US. In our hospital we are rotated around three different specialty units. I was in 2 different surgical units and a paediatric one. For the first one I received close to two weeks. The second I had 4 days. The third, 4 days.

My orientation as a new RN Grad in an ICU setting was to be 6 months. I was a previous LPN for 3 years so I got off orientation after 5 months. Had a fantastic orientation and preceptor and continue to learn daily. LOVE MY JOB!!!!

I had a similar experience to Alee 836. Almost 5 months because I got off early. Awesome preceptors and still learning. CAT

ICU, 4 weeks classroom, 12 weeks on the unit. Just got off orientation with some great preceptors (small team). After about a year I will have classes on LVAD's, RVAD's and IABP's.

Actually it is 12 weeks but I was not give a choice for that. The new grad is also expected to attend classes during this time given by the system experts in several areas. We had tried to institute a 22 wk new grad program but management was opposed due to budgeting issues.

The paperwork said 90 days. The reality was 65. Part of that was paperwork and how to use the computer system.

In our ER for new grads or for those coming from non ER backgrounds we do 40 shifts with a preceptor on the floor, plus 6 weeks (one day a week each) of a regional training class and an our facility specific class to didaticley review things.
