how long have you been at your job and what kept you there? i'm almost 12 yrs. at the same place due to benes and bonus check, and hopes of retirement after 30 yrs. i'm 37 now, so if you comment i would like to know your age if you care to share. my work environment has definately gone down hill but i hate to leave possibly for non greener pastures, if ya know what i mean.

I work on a NICU I love it more and more (I do have bad days too) I have tried working agency/bank in adult ITU and PICU but its just not the same. I enjoy the adrenalin rush of ITU but also the cold side and getting Mums and babies ready for home and here is the only place I get that mixture.

Things have improved since we got a new manager 2 years ago although we are based in a very old building and with all the equipment have little room to swing a mouse let alone a cat it is a friendly and happy place to work.

I'm not leaving but I am taking a year out and going back to Uni to do a course. hopefully to come back with new and fresh ideas.

Four years as an RN = four years in the OR for me (at the same hospital)

12 years here. I am an OR nurse and have been since graduating. 10 years at one hospital, then a year of traveling as open heart OR nurse, now back at first hospital as general/vacsular/GYN/oral/dental/open heart. as well as occasional Orthro and Neuro. before becoming a RN I was a home health aide. I did that for 10 years.

I been at my current job for a little more than a year. It was like coming home for me. I had done my senior practicum in nursing school there and had had a very positive experience. Took me 3 years to get a job in the facility that was more than a .4 EFT.

Well.......since you didn't post on the poll "not working at all"....I checked "less than a year". However.....that will change in the near future.

I've worked in a lot of areas over the course of my nursing career: pedi, newborn, sicu, float a few times to triage in ER, med/surg and everything in between, ortho/neuro, eent surgical oncology, urology, gyn surgery, respiratory, six wks in recovery, postpartum, abdominal surgery, traveling nursing and agency.....nurse of all trades....that's me.

This poll shows either a large turnover or that this site attracts a lot of newer nurses.
I was more than 20 years on one job. Like Rodney Dangerfiels I got no respect. Took another for a couple years. This one a couple years too.

Five yrs. and still ticking at curent job... will be there another 2
yrs. due to my commitment end of the company paying for my RN schooling... love what I do, but the co. is another story. If they don't get their head on straight, they may well lose one of their most dedicated staff in 2 years. When everything else takes priority over pt. care, they don't need (or WANT!) me.
