How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

I constantly get emails and private messages from new members telling me that they have been lurking for a long time and they finally decided to join.

Once they realize the benefits of being a registered member, they hey usually tell me, I wish I had joined along time ago

So my question to you is....

How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

Please take a second to answer the poll, and then post a reply with more details as to why you hesitated joining and what you'd like to tell those who are still lurking reading this post right now

FYI: according to wikipedia, the definition of a Lurker is:
In Internet culture, a lurker is a person who reads discussions on a message board, newsgroup, chatroom, file sharing or other interactive system, but rarely participates.
Thanks!

It didn't take me more than a few seconds to see the wealth of information support and friendship available here and I just knew that allnurses was something I wanted to be a part of. Same goes for upgrading my membership firstly to premium and then to platinum.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

Since a "few seconds" wasn't a pole choice i took "a few minutes".

I was looking for some info, Allnurses popped up in the Google search, clicked and got EXACTLY the info I was looking for. I needed more info on it, registered and voila'..here I am.

Upgraded not too long ago, I would have upgraded the day I registered but I have a BIG issue w/PayPal so I hesitated until I read that you can do it without using paypay..and seconds later, I was an upgraded member.

I am forever referring fellow students in my class to take a look here but they never do...they don't know what they are missing!

THANK you for such a great site!! You have no idea how many times this site has saved my hide!!

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

I am almost rabid about my profession and I was looking for a site to share and read what other nurses thought. I found Allnurses thru a link on my state board site and was interested almost immediately. I so enjoy being a member and get alot of info from everyone. I also learn new ways of looking at new and old problems. THANKS FOR THE SITE!

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

It took maybe a week or two. When I found the site, I was, at first, overwhelmed with learning how to navigate the site. I found some of the humor thread and would literally spend hours reading through them. When I realized that coming back to the site and having to figure out where I left off was confusing, I decided to join, so I could subscribe to threads of interest. I am so glad I joined because I learned so much, and had many of my questions about nursing answered.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

"A few YEARS" wasn't on the list, but that's how long it took me to scare up the courage to make my first post! I'd been lurking on and off since 1997, when I graduated, but didn't have a computer at home till 2000. I finally joined in 2002. Now I wonder why on earth I waited so long!

akcarmean, did you think you had to pay to join as a registered member (I hope not since it's free), or are you referring to upgrading your account as a premium user?

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

Less than a day for me, so I chose a few minutes. I was told about this site by ZeeRN while we were both on another board, and I joined the same day I checked it out.
