I lurked off and on for about 4 months, then I registered so I could post.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

I stumbled on the site last fall while doing research for an upcoming job interview. I found lots of helpful and entertaining threads, and indeed spent too much time looking through the humor area immediately after joining (w/in minutes). (The good news is I got the job offer anyway! )

I have truely enjoyed the wide variety of topics and many different viewpoints represented here. I have never failed to learn something new or at least consider a different viewpoint everytime I log on. Thanks to Brian and the myriad of staff and moderators for this opportunity to "never stop learning."

Hi there. I stumbled on this site while doing research for my Nursing classes (I'm an LPN student). I read a few forums and I was instantly hooked. It was the best decision I ever made and I'm to glad to be here. This site is very supportive and comforting to me as well as to other nurses. Nothing makes me happier than when I had a bad day at school, that I could just come home and relax by reading the "humor" section on this website.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

I lurked a long time. The posts were so much fun to read, but I didn't want to post from work and didn't have a computer at home. Then when I did have a computer at home, another newsgroup I was lurking on had problems with stalkers. Someone had determined who the posters were and where they lived from information either shared on-line or contained in their headers and was stalking them in their real lives as well as following them to every newsgroup they posted on and spouting horrible vitriol about these people. I didn't realize how rare that was.

Over time, I began to realize that this was a relatively safe place to vent about feelings you have at work -- those kinds of feelings you don't dare admit to at your actual job. And I've begun to realize that I have something to offer as well. So I joined, and I'm glad I did.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

When I was first looking for nursing career info, I found the site, bookmarked it and visited (lurked) for a few months. I finally registered about mid-way through LPN school but never took the time to post or get in-depth. Hope to change the participation level now.

A few weeks to a month. I finally joined when I put in my application for to study a bachelor of nursing at university. I found out last month that I got accepted into my first choice course and start orientation on February 11 - with my first lecture on February 18.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

I have lurked on this board for 3 to 4 years before registering. Now I can't ****. I would read information about school/salary negotiations/etc so I could be sure I could handle the journey to go to nursing school. I didn't join until I found I was starting clinicals in April. I just felt like I had nothing in common but when I saw the stuff on legal issues I realized well hmm some stuff I do know and that my past work experiences are indeed going to help in nursing as well. It is all starting to mesh now.

Re: How long did you Lurk before joining allnurses.com?

I joined right away. But- I'm vrey familiar with message boards and lurking never really occurs to me. I join, and if I don't feel comfortable...I just quit posting and go away lol. I love it here...and upgraded my membership after christmas was over and I had extra $ to spend. IT's a great place to come when I've had a GOOD or BAD day at work.
