I didn't think I had the right to join until I had been accepted into nursing school--but as soon as I got that acceptance letter, I joined right away (after I called my DH and mom, of course ).
It took me a few months because I was basically just looking for info on nursing and not an actual nurse and figured I had nothing to add to any conversations. I'm still not a nurse, and not even in my pre-req courses yet, but I love reading posts that I can relate to and I throw my two cents in now and then.
I said months but I actually lurked for over a YEAR. First I wanted to learn more about nursing and the REALITY that nurses face. Then after a year or so I registered while working on my pre-reqs. I became a premium member the day I was accepted to nursing school and I found out yesterday that I passed my NCLEX-RN exam.
This is such a great website...I cannot believe how much it enhanced my nursing education by keeping me informed on current events in nursing. I was a lot more knowledgeable then most of my classmates because of all the threads I read.
Pretty much as soon as I stumbled upon it, I joined. It took me a while to become a premium member, simply because I didn't want to spend the money on myself. I'm glad I did, though. Worth every penny!
I had the same problem. I found the site in either 1999 or 2000, lurked around for a few months and then just kinda forgot about it. Found it again while doing an online search in 2006. Lurked again for a few days until I saw a post that fired me up and then I joined so I could post my reply. I'll consider that time "for real" and go with the few days choice.
