I have always wondered what amount of nurses paid for their education through financial aid, student loans, or on their own.


The main reason for this thread is to provide information for people who cant afford expensive tuition. I recieved pell grants, student loans and worked part time to get myself through nusing school. Alot of people arent aware of the resources that are availible. I want to see the percentages of nurses who recieved financial aid to get through school

Please share how you paid for nursing school. Give any links or resources that you may have. Thanks!

I truly just don't want to think about it! My hubby has graciously accepted the responsibility of supporting all of us (me and our 5 kids) while I go to school full time. We are living off of student loans,pell grants, personal loans, and scholarships. I don't want to tell you how much I owe as of right now in student loans because I am partly embarrassed and partly ashamed. It's a LOT!

I only applied to the one school that I knew had full scholarships available. I had no college record in the US and went back to school as an adult learner, so the first year of school I relied on Pell grants, financial aid, and thank G-d only 1 loan for the summer semester. I also worked part-time which almost killed me. I got great grades and the next 2 years were fully paid by an amazing scholarship available only at 3 schools in the country. I was also able to stop working thanks to the financial aid that came straight to me.

I want to go on to get a BSN and later on a master's degree and plan to NOT pay for it if at all possible. I'm lucky to have hospitals in my area that offer 100% tuition reimbursement and that's where I'll be working when the time comes to go back to school.

I have to say, the hard work I put in to get really good grades will pay off for years. I was asked for a transcript when I applied for my job, which I never expected... And I got it! Now just have to pass the NCLEX next week and off I go

Thanks for your reply. Wow, the employer asked for your transcripts! I have never heard of that! See, my nursing school mates always gave me a hard time for pusing myself to make A's. They said that as long as you pass it doesnt matter because an RN is an RN, no matter what grades you make in school. Im happy with my A's!!!!

Oh, and my job asked for official transcripts as well...
