Hi! I am researching other facilities practices for Dobhoff tube insertions. Who is allowed to insert, RN's, LVN's or MD's, at the bedside, or in radiology? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
At my facility, the only folks permitted to insert Dobhoffs at bedside are doctors and critical care nurses. Sometimes, the patient has to go down to radiology to have one placed. I know that we are going to get to trial some sort of device that can track your placement progress at bedside, which would save the patient repeated X-rays.
Staff RNs where I work can insert DHTs on the unit (I'm not sure about LPNs because they literally do everything we do, just make less money). Before we use them we get an xray to confirm placement.
To me it's no more complicated that inserting a regular NGT.
