Nursing indeed is physically unhealthy. but you should not consider yourself a nurse if you'll be as much as unhealthy as your patients. we nurses should know all those anti- stress techniques, those preventive measures we've always been applying and all that so we'll stay HEALTHY ayt?

Physically unhealthy, no working days, yes working nights. Definately emotionally challenging which can lead to mental health problems.

I've been a nurse for five years and two months ago I had a laminectomy and diskectomy. This job is not only emotionally stressful, but it is physically stressful. New nurses make sure to watch your body mechincs.

Nursing is really a stressful profession. But I guess it also depends on the unit you're assigned and the people you work with and of course, your own personality. If you're a type A, you probably would not last 15 years, if at all.

No offense, but that's like saying that smoking is perfectly healthy for you, as long as you go golfing and exercise.

Very unhealthy. Stress and a backache, what else can you ask for?

I think that it depends on where you work, what shift and whether it's full time or part time. Management can also make a workplace toxic, as can coworkers.
I work mostly nights, and I'm starting to find that I am not getting enough exercise, don't have a social life, don't know when to eat anymore, and even though my home life is ok, I think it would be better on rotating shifts.
I refuse to work in the hospital, as the floors are known for their toxic environments and overtime, new grads and new hires are abused alot.
I think that we are expected to neglect ourselves for the "common good" and that a warm body at work is often all that is really important. I find that alot of the nurses that I work with are becoming extremely selfish and only look out for #1.
The best way to work is per diem, for even partime turns into full time unless you don't mind everyone hating you.
