Re: Do you talk about allnurses.com at work?

I tell the nurses at my job about it all the time. Esp if we are having a issue and are racking our brains how to handle it. We have internet at work, so I search to see if the issue was ever discussed and how other nurses handle it.
BUT I'm not logged in at work and I don't talk about patient stories on here because I don't want to be found out. It helps that I live in a city with a lot of hospitals though. I feel sorry for people venting on here and they live in a small town.

I don't talk about allnurses at work because I feel as though if my co-workers joined I would no longer be anonymous. Not that I give out any personal information about my job or where I work, just on med/surg but you know that they would want to know my user name as I would want to know theirs then I would not feel comfortable posting anymore

Re: Do you talk about allnurses.com at work?

I've talked about AllNurses to many of my coworkers. I've also told them to check the site out, too.
Some loved this site and joined immediately and others did not like the site at all.
I found that the various views on why a some Nurses really like AllNurses while others did not like it, very interesting.
Both sides had strong and valid points!

Re: Do you talk about allnurses.com at work?

The fact that we are encouraged to create user names demonstrates to me that this should be a site used with discretion. I told a few friends about it sometime back and as far as I know, none of them used it. I never tell co-workers because I talk about some of them like the dogs they are. They'd know it is me or someone who knows who they REALLY are, so, I keep this site as my little secret. People who are curious enough to wish to communicate with other nurses can find it easily enough.

Re: Do you talk about allnurses.com at work?

Yes....and no. This is a great find and I've learned so much about nursing and the different processes used in different hospitals. I love to share what I read and learn with friends that are interested so I do talk about the things I see here. But...only to those I trust. I do answer to some requests for input on different situations and then relate them back to my situation. Though I'm supposedly anonymous on here, someone told me once that they knew it was me cause I write as I talk. (And it was about getting input on a new job....) So when I respond, I keep in mind that people I work with may see everything I share.

It's such an incredible source of info and a great way to vent about nursing that I'm always surprised when people don't look up the site after I tell them about it. I guess some people just aren't into computers like I am. So sorry we can't bring up membership even more for you but if everyone was on the site....it would detract from the ability to say the things we like to get off our chest. So the best part of the site is also what's stopping you from gaining more clients. Thanks for Allnurses.com.

Re: Do you talk about allnurses.com at work?

I am new to this site, so in the past I have not. I did peek into the Male nurse site and I read so many interesting topics. I did go back and ask the male nurses their opinions and I told them about the site. It was nice because I think we began conversations about"male chest hair and tee shirts, do you like to work with males vs. females and other topics. I have nursing staff meetings twice a month and in June I am going to give the web site. I think that it will be a positive way to end the meeting.
