Who has the following sickness? Please check or place an X.

hepatitis B____________

Please share your experiences on getting/losing/finding your job. How did it affect the profession you have chosen? Have you even been discriminated?
Do you think there should be a law that should protect these people/you from discrimination in work?

Don't have it myself. But I did see first hand discrimination for it.
A coworker found out she had Hep B after several years working in the OR. She was a scrub tech, and once they found out she had it, she was sent down to Central Processing to be away from direct patient care. She did that for about two years, but I "think" she found a loop hole about them discrimanating against her. She has been back in the OR scrubbing for about a year and a half.

Good luck

I had one heck of a run-in with HIV/AIDS. . .

I was in school, medical technology, and I was doing a blood draw on a patient, and somehow managed to poke myself with the needle. . . his HIV test was + so I got the rapid HIV test. . . it was - but my doctor put me on PEP anyway. . . Scared me right out of medical technology. . . now, I'm going for nursing and pre-med. . . hope to eventaully be a physician, with a heart. . . keep the lessons I've learned from nursing. . . and actually care.

I tested positive for Hep B when applying for a job where they screened for it. I wasn't acutely ill, never had been ill, never had that diagnosis before, not sure when I was exposed. Have never been sick since, although I have borderline liver enzymes I need to watch.

I got the job I applied for. After leaving that job, I feel as I'm not acutely ill, my having hep B is nobody's business at this time.
