Afraid to speak up at work?

Just wondering how you feel about being honest with TPTB at your workplace about your working conditions.

Re: Afraid to speak up at work?

I have no problem speaking up and do reguarly. I think it is slightly different in the UK as you are very unlikely to lose your job over speaking your mind.

Generally have understanding mgmt/supes, so don't mind speaking my mind. Respectfully, but getting the same point across.

I have a bit of a hothead when it comes to pateint care and my last manager (many years ago) wasn't a nurse and had no idea how to manage nurses. After a long and loud "discussion" he shouted at me, if you think I can't manage why don't you just say. To which I replied, I think I just did

After that we had a definate understanding. He sent me to manage the service in our sister hospital and insisted that I need not report what I was doing to him.

I am very lucky now, I have an excellent relationship with my manager and we both have the same ideas about patient care so I am allowed to manage my wards and clinics as I see fit.
