Re: Woman expecting her 18th child

when you read that link about faq w/the duggars, michelle duggar states that she spends a lot of time with the older children, reviewing and expounding on the lessons they've learned.
that alone (especially in Biblical context) makes for a lot of meaningful conversation.
and just by virtue of being together 24/7, would expose them all to continuous contact.
she also hopes that by teaching her kids to treat others as they would want to be treated, this will prepare them in getting along w/others later in life.
it sounds like she has all her ducks in a row.
granted, this is not the norm and not a conventional/traditional american family.
but from the bottom of my heart, i do believe they are raising their children to be of tremendous value to themselves, ea other and to society.
i honestly don't know of many normal-sized families, who implement these ideals in such a consistent, persistent manner.
they just totally amaze me.

And given the general state of affairs with the normal American family, with divorce and remarriage so rampant, why would anyone have a problem with them trying to live a good, albeit sheltered life??????

And don't be fooled folks, this family is getting help from the government for support...meaning you a I.

We all work in the health care system, we all know how much it costs for health insurance, etc., we all know how much we pay for food for our families each month, clothing, gas, heating and air conditioning for our homes, etc. College funds for 18 kids?

Add it all up and this single-income family can't possibly do it alone. That spells government handout. Period.

As for my take on the morals and/or ethics of producing 18 children in this day and age?

Well, it seems to me that some people simply cannot fathom the math.

If all of humanity were to produce at this rate, with no thought to future generations or the sustainability of the earth's resources, we would soon be dying in the millions of starvation, among other things (wars would be fought for items such as a supply of clean drinking water, etc.).

Eighteen children in this day and age shows absolutely no social responsibility, an overweening selfishness and a complete disregard for others. My opinion, of course.

Mike
Hate to jump in, but other than the tax credits, the Duggars are independently wealthy (they made a killing in either the stock market or real estate years ago) and NOT asking the tax payers to support them, despite whatever else we may think about their choice.

I don't think that the data supports the idea that kids are becoming more conservative than their parents. If anything it is the opposite.

Viking--

Did you get your threads mixed up? Otherwise, not sure what this has to do with the price of tea in China, or Duggar baby#18????

Re: Woman expecting her 18th child

there use to be an old saying that the cobblers children had holes in their shoes
isn't it strange that with two realtors in the family they are late paying their property tax LOL

Well, I looked again and I just cannot find where I supposedly said, before Viking, anything about conservative and liberal kids.

Help. :-)

I looked over their website, and while I would not choose to have 18 kids myself, the way she answered the question about making a household of 19 run smoothly reminded me of a few generations back when that's pretty much how households were run. And the human race didn't collapse.

Maybe that is where I get my perspective . . being so old and all. And especially my husband. The whole family worked to run the farm. Kids had to actually work back then. Hard.

Didn't turn my husband or his sister into ax murderers.

And you should see my sis-in-laws' yard . . . . gorgeous. She is an English as a Second Language teacher for elementary and high school. Married a Hispanic man and had 3 kids. All bilingual. All had chores. All graduated from college.

My husband rescued a woman and her two little boys, married her and made two more babies.

Hard work, organization, rules, "jurisdictions" won't kill ya. And might just make you stronger.
