Sheriff looks into water-drinking death

By JULIET WILLIAMS, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 34 minutes ago

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - As participants in KDND-FM's water-drinking contest chugged bottle after bottle, a listener called in to warn the disc jockeys that the stunt could be fatal.
"Yeah, we're aware of that," one of them responded.
Another DJ said with a laugh: "Yeah, they signed releases, so we're not responsible. We're OK."

Re: What a bunch of idiots!

It was in my local paper this morning and the college student who died in Chico from water intoxication that the dj's in Sacramento made reference to - all Northern CA "idiots".

All to win a video game machine.
So sad. There is a lot of dumb insulting "entertainment" that is just plain wrong.
Eating bugs, bad singing, disfunctional families and individuals "star" on so many shows. Anorexic twils an ongoing "news" story.

Just too sad.

Re: What a bunch of idiots!

A law suit has been filed. The person that called in was a nurse; they blew her off. I sincerely doubt they (the radio personnel and the contestants) really understood the risks, and certainly didn't communicate them.

The woman's heart was in the right place. We're all running around w/our ubiquitous water bottles. I think the average person doesn't know that too much of a good thing isn't a good thing.

As tragic as it was - I'm not sure I'd place the FULL blame and culpability on the radio station or their jockeys ...

.... as "cruel, un-nurse like and inhuman" as it may sound; I don't think prosecuting them is entirely legit.

best,
Roy

Well ... if you're warned by healthcare professionals which, they were ... twice ... then I think prosecution is probably called for.

Apparently, they told one of the nurses that she was wrong and that she should participate in the contest. She said she didn't want to die.

At that point, IMO, they should be prosecuted.
