I can only assume he is there to hurt me or someone in the house. To do otherwise would be foolish and irresponsible. ESPECIALLY if there are children in the house.
i used the word "assets", to encompass a value on anything held near/dear to you.

if someone were to intrude into my home, i would assume the intent was to steal, and not to murder.
again however, and especially with children, i understand the need to defend oneself.
and again, i could never shoot a gun w/intent to kill.
furthermore, i am certain a weapon could be devised, that would put someone down long enough for him to be tied up...
and again, a much less violent and permanent means.
no one will ever convince me differently.

Indeed. That is the real reason there are so many accidents. Especially with children. No one teaches them the end result of shooting a gun.

The best way to teach this is when a child reaches the age where they understand what death is, kill something. My father chose a coyote. He caught it in a trap, pointed the gun at its head and shot it. Since that day I never had a doubt as to what would happen if I shot someone.

Since that day I had free use of the guns as well. People will give you funny looks when a 6 year old is shooting a .22 at a range with their father.

As it is with every other thing in life. Education is the key.

Leslie, I applaud you for recognizing that about yourself. That's such a critical issue to consider.

And then released a few years later on parole for breaking and entering and having a score to settle.

Me, I'd like to settle it once and for all right out of the gate.

no one will ever convince me differently.
I respect you for the strength of your conviction. Like Stanley, I hope that they don't.

All our kids got a .22 when they were about 6 or 7. My little guy (who turns 7 this month) got his for Christmas. We take him out to shoot often. All our kids take Hunter Safety too.

Haven't given a lot of thought to actually shooting something alive in order to teach the kids something, since they do hunt.

My older boys (23 and 25) hunt duck mostly but have both shot deer.

The 23 year old was recently put in the position to put down his grandparents dog that was dying of cancer and suffering. Grandpa helped and they buried him beneath the old black walnut tree, where all the other pets have been buried.

Re: Supreme Court overturns DC gun ban

Leslie, you underestimate your human capacity for self preservation. There is nothing wrong with killing to preserve life. People do it every day. The most fearsome killers aren't soldiers or murderers. They are mothers. Step between a mother and their child, whether a lion, a wolf or a nurse and she will kill you. Without a doubt.

Why do you think the biggest supporters of the death penalty for child rapists are mothers. I might want a mother that kills a child rapist in court to be tried, but I would never get in her way and try to stop her. I like living...

you do realize we're talking about human life here, right?
"settle it once and for all?"
that's just scary, song.

w/o going into detail, i have been at death's door more than a few times.
and while i had weapons used on me, not once did i ever consider the use of a gun.
i'll never understand or appreciate those who talk of human life, in such casual terms.

Life is cheap... Look at Iraq. I would say count your blessings that you live in a country were, at least compared to other places, life is sheltered. Sure there are occasional instances of senseless violence but overall life here is tame. People from 3rd world countries, police officers and soldiers know the truth of the matter.

Life is cheap. Death doesn't discriminate. I may die from cancer or COPD or Alzheimer's, but I'll be darned if I die at the hands of some two bit junkie or petty thief.

Kill them all. Let God sort em out...

It's not casual acceptance of death or dismissing of human life. It's a cold, hard fact of reality. Him or me. You have to choose. Not choosing is still a choice.
