It's better to shoot the intruder and take your chances with the courts than take your chances with the intruder.
And better shoot to kill because if you just wing someone, you are at risk. That is the one thing people don't think about - can you really shoot someone and shoot to kill?

If not - better to not have that gun. Because the bad guy will just use it on you.

Tazers, pepper spray, shooting just to wound someone . . . that is no guarantee that you are going to save that rape victim or yourself.

guns kill, simple as that.

Guns don't kill. People kill.

Cars don't kill. Drunk drivers kill.

Bombs don't kill. The president that orders the bombing does.

Music doesn't kill. Depressed and/or psychotic teenagers kill.

Gun laws are made for law abiding citizens. They do not stop criminals from having guns. If you don't believe me look at DC. DC had the highest murder rate and the highest gun crime rate in the country for a long time. DC also had the ONLY total gun ban in the country. The evidence speaks clearly. Gun restrictions don't work.

Insanity is when people keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

In a life or death situation, you cannot take a chance on just wounding a criminal. They can be amazingly strong, almost superhuman strength, and still get you.

I've seen a man on drugs in handcuffs in the back of patrol car kick the windows out of the patrol car.

My nephew is a CHP - he tells many stories of wounded men (and some women) still fighting.

Nope - shoot to kill.

Gun Owner's First Rule

Never point a gun at anyone you don't intend to kill.

Leslie.

It's not about protecting assets.

It's about protecting life. When it comes down to the wire. My life or an intruder's life. At that point in time, when he is committing the crime, my life is MORE valuable than his. If he breaks into my house his/her life is forfeit.
I can only assume he is there to hurt me or someone in the house. To do otherwise would be foolish and irresponsible. ESPECIALLY if there are children in the house.

you make a valid point about dc.
but i'm sure it has less to do w/gun restrictions and more to do w/drug use and other rancid etiologies.
that would be a whole other thread.

As you (and Spidey) know, I'm sure, it's quite dangerous in several respects to think of shooting as anything besides deadly force. For that matter, don't even AIM a gun at somebody unless you've already resolved in your heart and mind that you're ready to kill them.

Too many accidents by people who don't get it.

Too easy to return fire on someone who doesn't get it.

Too easy to take the weapon away from somebody who doesn't get it.

As somebody (either Stanley or the SOCOM guy) said earlier, guns are simply tools. Not ones to be trifled with, though. They really have only one purpose and that's to kill. Sure, lots of us "play" with them by plinking cans, shooting targets, or shooting skeet but the only real purpose of a gun is to kill something.

Those who don't understand that are the really dangerous ones.
