police officer punished for wearing the wrong uniform

Lovely!

http://allnurses.com/forums/newthrea...ewthread&f=112

With minutes left in the last shift of his 35-year New Orleans police career, Sgt. Bobby Guidry received a call from a supervisor telling him he had been suspended for wearing the wrong uniform shirt, the veteran officer said.

The Police Department confirmed the censure Tuesday, though it quibbled with the term "suspended." Rather, Guidry is "under investigation for wearing the wrong uniform," said Police Department spokesman Bob Young.

Instead of the standard-issue all-black uniform, Guidry, a veteran officer in the city's Uptown 2nd District, chose the powder-blue uniform shirt that he wore to work for more than three decades.

He viewed it as a simple statement, not an affront to rules or department leadership.

"Eighteen people died in the line of duty in that powder-blue shirt while I was with the department," Guidry said. "I went to each of those funerals. I wore that shirt on a Saturday, on my last day, out of respect for them."

Re: police officer punished for wearing the wrong uniform

Sounds like maybe they are trying to make a case to get rid of him so they don't owe a pension or benefits.

Re: police officer punished for wearing the wrong uniform

The rest of the story is...
The officer was retiring after 25(?) years of service. Prior to Hurtricane Katrina they wore light blue shirt; after the Hurricane most officers lost their uniforms. The city could not get new ones to match the old ones. So the changed uniforms to dark blue. On his final day of work, in honor of all the officers who served with him for many years pre-katrina; he wore his old uniform. His retirement is now considered retirement with reprimand or somehting like that. Now here's the intersting part. On that same press release the City of New Orleans Police Dept. listed 2 other officers fired. #1 was an officer accused of rape. #2 was a female offcier who was in line to pick up a child from school, she became angry at the car in front of her and pulled her service revolver on them. The article was in The Times-Picayune if you want to see it. I don't have any updates. That was last week.
