NHL Playoffs anyone? (spoilers inside)

Wondering if anyone here is a fan, or watching the playoffs out of curiosity?

Obviously, I love this time of year. I plan my PTO around it. This year has been some great matchups, and have recieved some good coverage media-wise (for a change!)

I'm staying up way too late tonight to see who my beloved Dallas Stars are gonna play in the next round. It's looking like we'll have more late night games coming from Cali this round.

Sad to see the Caps bow out. Played their hearts out...and I wanted the Canadiens to play the Rangers. Not real thrilled with a Philly/Montreal matchup...but I have faith in the Habs.

Dh is a manical hockey fan, so the games have been on here nonstop. I guess we're due to face the Rangers. Dh is not too happy about that. He would have rather seen the Caps. There are a lot of former Penguins on the Rangers that surely have something to prove.

He also would rather not have us face the Flyers further down the road. They're pretty dirty. They do have a "local boy does good" though. R.J. Umberger grew-up with my younger brother. If the Pens do wind-up losing to Philly, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a Cup. He was a nice kid.

That's pretty cool about Umberger. I've always liked him as a player...wouldn't mind seeing him in a Stars uni at all!

Tell hubby that everyone out here is hoping for the Pens to beat the Rangers. It was a real pleasant suprise to see the Pens step it up when Crosby was out and show they were way more than a one-trick pony. I think the rest of the team gets overshadowed by Sidney, and we didn't realize what an exciting team has been built there. I've enjoyed watching them, as I don't really get to see much of them out here (stupid NHL scheduling). Of course, if they move to the Conference Finals, the Canadiens are gonna kill them.

The Stars are playing the Sharks. More late, late games for me to sit up and go insane, then drag into work with no sleep. The Stars are road warriors, though. Here's hoping the schedule is harder on me than it is on them!

Tht's what dh does. He goes to bed around 01:00 or 02:00 and is up for work in the morning. Thank goodness he's not working 05:00-14:00 anymore.

We have a lot of young talent across the board: Malkin, Staal, Talbot, Fleury.

I can't forget the heart that Gary Roberts supplies. There was a sign on the wall a fan brought in. WWGRD? (What would Gary Roberts do?) It also seems like Hossa was a good addition to the physical part of the game too.

I was talking to dh. He seems to think we'll do better against the Canadiens than we would against the Islanders. Don't know. This is his time of year.

I'll never forget watching Umberger get laid out by Campbell at HSBC arena.

I'm disappointed my Sabres didn't make the play offs. Appaling really, for a team that won the President's Trophy last year.

Unlike most fans, I bear no goodwill towards Briere or Drury.
And I'll always have a soft spot for Brian Campbell - even if he's with the Sharks now.

But yeah, I'm a hockey nut ... even if I have to pay an extra 50 quid every month just to watch it!

Once a Sabre. Always a Sabre.

Lets go Buffalo!

While we're at it, here's "Peace and Brotherhood, NHL style":

The contrast between what's happening in the background Vs the foreground is priceless!

Roy-
That was great. Did you watch the outdoor game this winter with the Sabres and Pens? It was strange to see them play in the snow, but very cool.

Dh directed me to some other videos of NHL players jawing on the bench. It was just like watching a modern day Slapshot.

" . . . . .You nailed him, Coach! You nailed him right in his mind! . . . ."

I may have to watch that again this weekend.

I've been hoping for a Stars/Wings WCF for years now. The Ducks jacked us out of it in 2003, but we took care of that little annoyance this year. My BIL is from Michigan, and of course we all bleed green and gold. When they got married, he had two grooms cakes...one in the Stars logo and the winged wheel. The best man (Wings fan) and I (maid of honour) had to each make the other eat a piece of our team's cakes. Seriously, we want this series. (And the Stars will take it! )

The Pens/Rangers game last night was some great hockey. Although I think Crosby did a bit of acting on that penalty...still some fun stuff. Of course, the Stars totally stole Game one last night. I'm in no rush to get Zubov back...I think our defense is too young and innocent to know they have no business playing at the level that they're playing at right now...and I hope no one tells them!

Tonight...Montreal! I hope they have their heads on a swivel...Flyers are mad.
