Re: Journalist Tim Russert has died

Wonder why I never really heard of him or seen him. Guess it's because I boycott network news for the most part and never watch Meet the Press (can you believe that show has been on since the 40's???). Obviously he was well respected by his peers and the public alike.

Re: Journalist Tim Russert has died

I think he was a good man. Loved his family and friends.

But as we all do he is being credited for "tough questioning" by colleagues and political people.
He never wquestions the administrations mislead before or in the few years after the Iraq was was started.
He was a nice man but no hero. He was part of the corporate media. News has to sell advertising.
If it is important but not entertaining it is not included.

I love ya herring but this is not a fair or accurate representation of Tim Russert.

Just watching the snippets of interviews this morning on "Meet The Press" you could see that he was not "part of the corporate media" and it was not "entertainment". He was a real journalist. He asked hard questions of everyone, did his homework, was honest and honorable and was a hero to his family.

I grew up watching news shows - 60 Minutes, Meet The Press, etc. He will be missed in my home.

Re: Journalist Tim Russert has died

Steph:
I apologise. You are right.

Of course NBC is corporate. They survive and profit from advertising.
But Mr. Russert did ask some questions tougher than my memory.
I looked back and read this transcript from just before "Shock and Awe"

My memory must be faulty because I was so fearful listening to the Vice President continue the idea that WAR WAS THE ONLY WAY!
I was crying, just so very sad and ashamed that this was going to happen in my name.
And could not understand why we had to attack Iraq when none of the hijackers were Iraqi.
MEET THE PRESS
Sunday, March 16, 2003
GUEST: Vice President DICK CHENEY
MODERATOR/PANELIST: Tim Russert - NBC News

...MR. RUSSERT: So bottom line, he would have to disarm completely and leave the country?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: I think that would be the only acceptable outcome I can think of at this point, but obviously, we can continue to try to work through the United Nations and work diplomacy to try to arrive at an acceptable outcome. To date, we haven’t been successful....

...MR. RUSSERT: Many Americans and many people around the world are asking one question: Why is it acceptable for the United States to lead a military attack against a nation that has not attacked the United States? What’s your answer?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: Tim, we have, I think admittedly, a new and unique set of circumstances we’re trying to deal with here. If you think back to the way we were organized in the last century, the 20th century, to deal with threats to the United States, or to our friends and allies, we had to deal with large states, significant military forces, intercontinental ballistic missiles, the kinds of threats we dealt with throughout the period of the Cold War, all of that changed on September 11 of a year and a half ago....
...MR. RUSSERT: What do you think is the most important rationale for going to war with Iraq?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: Well, I think I’ve just given it, Tim, in terms of the combination of his development and use of chemical weapons, his development of biological weapons, his pursuit of nuclear weapons....
