Re: Hunger Has Been Wiped Out by Government

You always come up with the most interesting articles....I appreciate the thought that the government is looking into this type of thing.. However, lets quit writing about it and do something for the people that are effected. I think that people that are investigating should hit the streets and talk to the homeless. They should be the ones to serve food in the in the shelters or make shift- food lines. You can talk about it all day , you can try and get rid of the word "hunger" to make it less than what it is and you can survey the world to death..but you never really see impact of hunger unless you have been hungry or dealt with it first hand....ok im done now...and I feel better....

Whew! I was getting worried that you were coming after me...

I used to be a visiting nurse in inner city, Philadelphia. I am only too familiar with the poverty of those places. But, most of us forget, it's right here in smaller places also. Yes, calling it something else can hide it better especially if you don't want to look. Many people don't want to look.

35 million people could not put food on the table sometimes. That's an awfully high number. And gee, my freezer and fridge is stuffed full of food.

I don't want to think of the starving kids who may never get a chance to get out of poverty. It just saddens me too much.

And that's why I donate food, clothes and other necessities to our local homeless shelter. I also volunteer at the soup kitchen. I'm sick of people talking about the starving people but not doing anything.

I have an aunt who refuses to help those who need it. She's in position that she could (her husband owns a plane). I'm not knocking the fact that they have a plane, that's their business but to say the homeless and hungry are in that postion because they want to is just bs and cruel. I believe in karma.

I'm afraid to think (and to chicken to read the article, lol) what they ARE calling it. Nutritionally challenged?

The U.S. government has vowed that Americans will never be hungry again. But they may experience "very low food security."

I donate to food banks also.

Re: Hunger Has Been Wiped Out by Government

My hat is off to Bethin and Tex and anyone who helps our hungry. I confess; I should do more. I do fill up bags and place food in the collection boxes and for the postal workers who do their drives, and I put GOOD food in there----food I WOULD EAT. But I stop there and I am ashamed. Thank you for reminding me I should do more. I needed that.
