Hospice helped dying man lose his virginity

Here's an interesting article from UK about a hospice that helped a young man with muscular dystrophy find a prostitute to experience sex before he died. The hospice is run by an apparently open minded nun.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.../nvirgin27.xml

A young disabled man who receives care for his life-limiting illness at a hospice run by a nun spoke yesterday of his decision to use a prostitute to experience sex before he dies.

Sister Frances Dominica gave her support to 22-year-old Nick Wallis, who was born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Sufferers usually die by their thirties.

Mr Wallis told staff at the Douglas House hospice in Oxford that he wanted to experience sexual intercourse. He explained that he had hoped to form an intimate and loving relationship with a woman, but his disability had acted as a barrier.

Thumbs up Re: Hospice helped dying man lose his virginity

"I know that some people will say 'You are a Christian foundation. What are you thinking about?'. But we are here for all faiths and none," she said.

"It is not our job to make moral decisions for our guests. We came to the conclusion that it was our duty of care to support Nick emotionally and to help ensure his physical safety."

to enlightenment.

it sounded like a carefully thought-out decision, involving all of nick's loved ones in the process.
i think it's wonderful that morality didn't even come into play, but rather, fulfilling a dying man's last wishes.
yay.

Ick to the idea of a prostitute.

As to his free choice . . . I'm not going to stand in his way.

As to the Hospice getting involved . . . . I'm having trouble with that.

Seems sad to me that sex is what you are thinking about instead of relationships.

To me, there is a difference between sexual intercourse and making love but I guess I'm just an old romantic.

I like the way the nun calls this young man a "guest".

Re: Hospice helped dying man lose his virginity

In thinking more about it, I've come to the conclusion that since I think prostitution is wrong and using prostitutes is wrong that I have to be evenhanded and think why should someone with a disability get a pass?

I feel very badly for him that he has not experienced a loving sexual relationship but I think buying sex is not the answer.

I would be appalled if my sons used prostitutes. No matter what the reason.

Guess you could call me unenlightened but maybe there is room for disagreement here.

Well, experiencing sex isn't on my list of things to do before I die, but I can imagine it's number 1 on some men's lists.

And sex with a prostitute is different than sex with a loved one.
