My question about the source was related only to the comment about the Catholic Church and wife beating, but since you've made some pretty damning statements about the FLDS, what is your source - the media? I've already said that I don't accept the media as a credible source.

We in the public should not base our opinions exclusively on what we read in the paper or hear on the news.

I may disagree with their beleif system and practices, but I have no reason to assume that the members of this religious sect are not decent, pious people.

It was wrong for these children to be taken from their homes, and it is wrong to presume, based on what has been presented by the media, that some miscarriage of justice has occurred by returning them to their homes.

Others are free to disagree with me, but if you try to make your case by referring to what has been reported by the media, I'm going to reject your argument based on a lack of credible evidence.
I have knowledge based on an aquaintance who left a cult like this..this woman has no contact with her family anymore, she was pretty much written off as "dead" because she left. Women and children were at the mercy of the father in the family and if the guy was abusive, you were SOL. Once you hit puberty and are of childbearing age, you're considered fair game and too bad if you don't WANT to marry the 55 year old guy. It's your duty to do so, and start popping out little cult members.

I give her all the credit in the world because it's basically a matter of rebuilding your life and your whole mentality after this.

Now obviously, I didn't live this nightmare so I'm sure some people will think this is not credible evidence and that is their option and right to think this.

For me, just the fact that 1 girl may have been forced into "marriage" is enough to take the kids out of there. Because if it happened to 1, you can bet it's happening to others.

Re: get out of Dubai

Moving to Current Events forum, as it's not a nursing topic.

Discuss.

Nowhere in that statement does it say it has to be women.
The "women" bit stems from the root of the word polygamy - "gamy" refers to female. The equivalent term of one woman having multiple males as husband is "polyandry".

cheers,

Ah . . . you make me proud Roy.

It is interesting the posts in this thread vs the ones in the "polygamy" thread . . . .here people are upset about the children being taken from the moms and there people think it was completely justified.
