Free organ transplans for illegal immigrants...
|
|
I wonder if i can apply to become an illegal alien.....free college, free organ transplants, no need to show id to get loans, no need to have car insurance! Who the heck wants to be a US citizen nowadays?
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/ar...bate_in_calif/
Late last month Puente learned of another, little-known option for patients with certain healthcare needs. If she notified US Citizenship and Immigration Services that she was in the country illegally, state health officials might grant her full coverage through Medi-Cal, the state health services assistance program for the poor. Puente did so, her benefits were restored, and she is awaiting a fourth transplant at UCLA.
Puente's case highlights two controversial issues: Should illegal immigrants receive liver transplants in the United States and should taxpayers pick up the cost?
The average cost of a liver transplant and first-year follow-up is nearly $490,000, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing we should be providing is a seat on the next plane back to her home country ...

Who says they get free college? I know several who wanted to go to college but couldn't because of their immigration status.
I personally think anyone here who needs medical care should get it. Frankly, it doesn't bother me.

what is bothering a lot of people is that their loved one could be booted while waiting for a transplant
until there is a viable way to hal diseases w/o transplant i don't see why an illegal should go to the head of the line

I understand that, but it does not matter to me where they come from or how they get here. If they are sick, they are sick.

Illegal Immigrants Get Aid To Go To College
Poudre High School Students Get In-State Tuition In New Mexico
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — At least 10 undocumented students from Colorado will get to attend classes at the University of New Mexico this fall, with many not having to pay for tuition or books.
A new Colorado law prohibits state colleges from providing in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants.
In New Mexico, the state is barred from denying education benefits based on immigration status, said Terry Babbitt, director of admissions for the University of New Mexico.
While New Mexico’s state financial aid is intended for residents, Poudre High School counselor Isabel Thacker in Colorado found a way for her students to receive in-state tuition, plus scholarships to cover it.

Unfortunately, what matters to you, is irrelevant it seems. Otherwise, how do you explain the case below?
Middle-class, employed Delbert Davis incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debts, declared bankruptcy and ultimately died because he wasn't able to get insurance or self-pay for a liver transplant.

Sure doesn't happen in my state.
And we have a lot of undocumented kids, more than in NM or CO.
As for the other, it's not the fault of the immigrants, it's the fault of stupid government bureaucracy and regulations. I am sure if you asked any of them they'd rather not be sick, but working.
I work my backside off, am still paying student loans, carry health insurance for my entire family, and am the primary breadwinner for my house. Still, for me, the blame doesn't fall with undocumented immigrants.
