They are illegal in most of California . . . . although I could drive about an hour south and buy some legally in a neighboring county.

That's how it is here in Texas... Most cities do not allow stands, nor shooting of fireworks.

However, you can drive down the road 5 minutes from where I actually live, and be outside city limits...guess what???? YEP....there's a couple of stands!!!

Other than banning stands, if they do allow them around, why not band the 'bottle rockets' or other types that land on roofs of houses so often?

(I have to admit, I like the Sparklers.)

I love Sparklers . . . .

We do get those every year and a few fireworks . . .but we take them to our inlaws' ranch.

Re: fireworks season, ED staff must be dreading the inevitable effects of stupidity

Fireworks are illegal in New York State, except for shows put on by professionals. However, Pennsylvania has no such law, so New Yorker go to PA and pick up fireworks, it's sheer torture around here starting the week before July 4th and continuing into the week after.

Worse, the local police don't bother to investigate complaints. I had neighbors having a BBQ next door and were shooting off illegal fireworks, I noticed as I was parking my car. I thought to myself, "I'll ignore it, don't want trouble with the neighbors". Didn't last long. As I was walking from my car to my house, a missile "whizzed" right by my head, missing me by maybe an inch. NOW I WAS PEEVED!!

So I called the police, I kept thinking if this is how irresponsible these people are, the children wandering around are in danger. Especially because ETOH was involved.

The police said, and I quote "What do you want us to do about it, it's the 4th of July?" I said "How about uphold the laws in NY where fireworks are illegal, and say something to the people who nearly took off my head!! - Earn your money!"

The police finally went over, and the party shut down. I know I sound like a poor sport, but in the middle of the city, that is just irresponsible.

i consider this dangerous and an absolute waste of good money
my poor little poodle was scared to death of all that noise, she would hide in a closet when she would hear it
and 4th is usually dry around here and it is dangerous having all that flying int dry fields

the inevitable effects of stupidity
I thought the same thing. Isn't inevitable stupidity a daily occurrence?

They are illegal in all of AZ, you'd have to go out of state to buy 'em. We have enough fire (and stupidity) problems without fireworks.
