Exclamation Biker Unknowingly Loses Leg, Continues Ride

I cannot get over this!!! How do you not know you've lost your leg?? Poor fellow...

TOKYO — A Japanese biker whose leg was severed below the knee continued his ride, apparently unaware of his loss, Reuters reports.
The office worker, who was not identified in the story, said he felt extreme pain after hitting a safety barrier on his motorcycle but rode for 1.2 miles before noticing.

One of the friends with whom he was riding retrieved the 54-year-old's body part during the outing in Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, on Monday.
He was taken to the hospital but the leg had been crushed.

I have to think that this man saw the injury but instantly went into denial and kept going. Can't you just picture him looking down? Seeing it - shock - saying, "that did not happen." It's too much for the mind to take in.

If there is a total amputation, that can happen. All the blood vessels close off. I learned that many years ago in my EMT class.
