Smile Well I did it! I quit my regular job to go to agency.

I hope I have made the right decision. But I could not take the BS anymore.
So here I go. I think it will be great having the days off that I need or want without a problem. Any advice????

Good for you, I think going agency was the best thing I ever did. I doubled my salary, I have all the holidays off that I want, I take important school days off. No more hospital politics, just go in take care of you patients and leave. Much less stress, I actually enjoy nursing more now.

Yep I too got sick of the politics too badbird....I have been on holidays since resigning my old job 3 weeks ago.....and will join an agency in a few weeks. I am really looking forward to enjoying nursing again for all the reasons you mentioned.

Congratulations!!
I love doing agency nursing. Most of the people I work with really appreciate that I am there to help! My only frustration is having to wait to get my labs or test results since I don't have computer access. You just have to keep your chin up, be aware of everything going on around you. OH.. and befriend your nursing secretary...She/he can get you anything you need in a hurry.
I always introduce myself to everyone on the unit as soon as I get there. I meet with my CNA and we discuss the day's plan for pt's care. Your day will be different everyday. You will spend more time doing the things you love and less time on hospital politics! Good Luck!!

Well I was doing Assisted Living and covering my bosses back at all cost. Too bad she throw me to the wolfs. But the joke is on her, her careplans that "only she could do" are not complete or up to date and some people who discharged had none. I used to give her a list, then I just kept the list. Cut throat works both ways, my list just might fall into the wrong hands. I got out before I had too, but I miss my residents. I feel much better now that I can go and do my shift and go home. I just hope I get enough hours. But no holidays unless I say yes sounds wonderful since I seemed to always work them all so that the other gal could spend it with her family. Well I have a family also. Thanks for letting me vent. My first shift is 11-7 tomorrow night.

Good luck. It may take time for you to become "known" & you may get cancelled the first few days but when the staff knows you then it all falls into place. Also make friends with your agencies bookers. Let them know what you will & won't do . Remember the first day in a new environment is the most stressful & give yourself a break. You won't be walking out the door on time( I never do ). Looking back I wonder why I didn't do it a lot earlier.
