Atlanta area hospitals

I used to live in the Atl. I was a student then and worked as a tech on a tele floor, but I can tell you we had a lot of agency nurses. Southern Regional Medical Center is where I worked and it was a good place. All the agency nurses liked it. It's on the southside of Atl though about 45 minutes south of Marrietta. In the Marrietta area you have Kennestone Hospital, Crawford Long are both good places to check out. Had a friend and a cousin who were nurses at those. Georgia Baptist is also supposed to be good. Definitely avoid Grady as the pay is not worth the headache, and when I checked Grady's payscale last year, it's not that great either. Rumors exaggerate what they pay their nurses. Also, ask about your nurse/pt ratio. On my tele floor a good day was 5-6 pts on days per RN and 6-7 pts on nights per RN. They would not hesitate to give you more though if staffing was low, unless the nurses spoke up. The $32-35 figure someone mentioned is about right. Keep in mind though living in Atl is expensive! Housing is through the roof if you don't get well outside of the city limits. Hope this helps.

Go down southwest to Savannah, nice city and decent hospitals.
Any place is what you make of it. Make up your mind that you will like it and you will!
Best wishes and God Bless You.

Lived in ATL for 3 years right out of nursing school. The Marietta / Kennesaw area are very nice to live/work if you prefer not living downtown atlanta. Check out WellStar Kennestone Hospital (they are opening new open heart in conjunction with Emory if anyone cares). St. Joseph's Hospital is very good, is the only Magnet in Georgia right now. Piedmont is known as a great cardiac center. Emory is extremely busy and is a teaching hosptial, did some per diem agency work there, didn't really like the way agencys were treated though. Have heard Southern Regional in southern ATL is a good place to work, don't know about living there. Would stay away from Ga Baptist and Grady if I were you, but these are just my 2 cents. Lived in Kennesaw and Vinings when I was in ATL. Would rec both places, vinings is a little busier and upscale acting (have to dress up to go to the gas station, BS in my opinion). Miss the Kennesaw area. Both are located near major interstates.
Went to school at Georgia Southern near Savannah and many of our senior clinicals were there. Memorial is a 35 county level 1 trauma teaching center. Candler-St. Joseph's is mainly a cardiac, ER level 2 there.
Hope this helps to answer some questions about GA.
