I Was Shocked. Is This Possible. If It Is Is It Because She Works With An Agency Rather Than Directly With A Hospital, Or Because She Is Working In Connecticut.

I am quite sure it because its agency and most like she has no bennnies, but wow thats a cool salary, i sure would work agency with that pay. Matter fact i am leaning more toward that once i graduate, i figure hubby bennies are all i need

You will first need to put your time in as a staff nurse before most agencies will consider hiring you......But once you get your time in, agency is the only way to go.....................................

Yes it is true, and it's is both. She is working in an area that pays more, and working for agency. Here in the Seattle an LPN can make up to $36/hr with an agency, depending on what specialty you do shifts in.

Also working agency no longer means you don't get bennies. That used to be the case, but now many agencies offer Med/Dental/Long/Short/ADD/Life insurance, and vision. The agency I work for we have fitness center, and rental car discount programs. You also get points for shifts worked, for trips and such.

So YES agency is the way to go. I work when I want, and where I want. Presently I work as an Advice Nurse, and the Medical Center hasn't been able to hire anyone into the positon. So I work any day of the week I wish, and currently I do three days a week, except Friday, and make more than I coud doing shift work at a hospital perm.

But like has already been posted you need to get some experience before venturing out with an agency. You need to know how to function on your own, with little or no orientation, and run with it.

When I got my current position I only had less than two hours oreintation, while a perm person receives 8 weeks!

I'm glad to say that I know from experience that it is TRUE. I'm an LPN working on my BSN. I work for several different agencies that pay us up to $40 per hour. The most I've made per hour is $30 and that was easy money....prison nursing and assisted living. However, the higher rates usually depend upon your nursing skills and experience in certain specialties.

CT is the highest paying state for LPN's. And since she works for an agency it's even more. But even without working for an agency I've seen up to $33.00 for per diem LPN's in a LTC facility. Too bad I had to move to Upstate NY right after graduating, I'm making $14.00. But the cost of living is less here.
