I work for an agency in Central CA, they have a bonus program if you work a certain amt of hrs in 6mos. It is pretty nominial like 3-4% or something. It is an infinitestimal amt, but better than nothing. However, I think that agencies need to have some established pay raise structure. What does everyone think?

I've encountered mostly a flat offer system... for specialty on night shift, medsurg on weekend, etc. Occasionally bonuses for extra shifts and weekends are offered by motivated agencies in my area.

I've also noticed a nurse can sometimes negotiate a higher rate if the agency is desperate to place a nurse.

The agency I work for has raises about every year we average a $2.00/hr raise.

My agency used to pay a flat amount, plus a dollar or two extra dependent on the number of facilities you worked out. Then , a year later, they gave us a dollar raise and didn't matter how many places you worked.
We get a 15% shift diff for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
Every month, we get a bonus depending on the hours we worked the previous month. I'm not sure of the exact number, but it's something like 50-75 is $2 an hour for each hour, 75-110 is $3, and over 110 hours a month is $4, so if you worked 110 hours last month, your monthly bonus pre-taxes is $440!!

Raises aren't scheduled on a regular basis around here. Sometimes, you have to ask. I did get a raise this year, unasked for. Nice one too. I guess it depends on your working relationship with them.

The agency I work for is small, locally owned, so raises so far are unheard of. I work with another nurse from the same agency on a regular basis, and according to her, she gets a raise every time she turns around....hmm, maybe I should do some investigating.

I find a simple phone call saying XYZ agency will pay me $2/hr (or whatever) more than you for working the same unit same facility, they will bump you up. Just make sure you can back up your claim. In other words don't make up a fake rate of pay because most agencies tend to know what everyone else is paying already anyway. Just because they know others are paying more doesn't mean they are going to just hand out a raise... you have to ask for it or let them know you may go elsewhere.
