The government allows $0.37 a mile. Most agencies around here pay $0.32 to $0.35 a mile. The agencies usually pass the charge along to the hospital so they aren't out anything for your travel. Since they are passing the cost along to the hospital they could at least pay you the full $0.37 a mile or close to it. Am sure that the agency will write the travel expense off for $0.37. So they are making money off you.

Last I checked it was 37.5 %... quote from a government web site ***37.5 cents per mile (if no Government Owned Vehicle available) ***

http://www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/con...Type=GSA_BASIC

It. mileage reimbursement) adds up quickly...

It slays me that someone else can skim money off the backs of the hard working nurse and still get the glory of "being generous" with travel reimbursement.

mileage reimbursement?

Is everyone talking about mileage for travelling to and from their travel assignment????? I wasn't aware that agencies were paying us to drive to and from work after they covered all our expenses to move to a certain area of the country. Is this true????? How can agencies afford this because I know from experience in working at one that agencies barely make any money off a nurse who travels because hospitals don't want to pay any more than a per diem nurse and we expect all of our expenses paid. Some areas of the country, like the one I'm in (SF Bay area), are pretty expensive to live in. What's up with the mileage reimbursement?????

They are not talking about pay for driving to and from your apt to work, but for expenses covered for moving to the other city for the contract. Such as if you were going to drive from Phoenix to Los Angeles for your contract. The monies that would be given for expenses involved with the driving.........
Same as the moving expenses that you are talking about, just worded differently.

Got It!

Thanks for clearing that up, Suzanne4. I thought I was missing something!
