Burn Unit: Critical Care or Emergency care

hey guys,
I have my preceptorship this semester in the Burn Unit. Once I graduate i wanna work in either CCU or MICU or SICU (hopefully stepdown). But im not sure of me working in the burn unit is going to count as critical care experience or emergency care. Just wanted to make sure.

Re: Burn Unit: Critical Care or Emergency care

It depends on the burn unit, but I'd definitely classify it as critical care.

it seems to me that it is about as critical as care can get, if you're talking a full burn center where the patients may stay weeks or months.

I wondered this myself, since I'm considering CRNA and want to make sure it's counted as critical care.

I also wonder why It's not listed in the critical care section here. I think most burn centers want you to have a CCRN, right? And they have their own specialty cert, too.

I've often wondered this myself. I work in a burn center, but it's referred to as BICU for Burn ICU.

I don't know that the CCRN cert is a requirement, but they do require that you get your ACLS and PALS within a year of starting in the burn center. I haven't heard of any specialty certification for working in the burn specialty, but would be interested in it if there is one.
