[Driven Persistence]

Has anyone gone through ABA Burn Certification? I am the new Quality Manager for the Trauma/Burn unit ofa large teaching facility. The person that this job before me did little to nothing to move this task forward. In addition, neither the trauma or burn units have a formalized quality program. This is all falling to me.

Regardless of these barriers, we have been told that we will be submitting the application by the end of Summer 2005 -- no options considered.

Would anyone would like to share their thoughts or experiences...

I attended the ABA course and am certified. It was probably the best certification course I've ever attended. It is required that all the RN's working with burns at our hospital be certified. If you have a burn team, this is a must. Good luck.

I have been trying to get the ABA to return E-mails for over two months.

No luck

I have called and talked with the director of the Advanced Burn Life Support program. I got promises, no results.

I was told that the entire program would be available on-line this summer and that they had a "Beta-site" up and running.

There was a promise of the textbook also being available on-line.

Either they are not too proud of their program or they are really having some problems.

It is possible that they didn't get any of my 20 plus E-mails and forgotten the 45 minute phone call.

Anyway, that's my experience with them ...... so far.

are you talking about the unit being verified by the american college of surgeons or the rn's acquiring abls? i work in a unit that has recently went through the verification process and it was a several year process. in regards to abls, all of our nurses are required to obtain this certification soon after their hire. we are lucky to live in a large city and our burn center offers thge abls course. we also go to outlying areas and offer it to others.
