Hello everyone,
I was wondering whether you are just nursing, because at the correctional hospital where I work the only CO's you see are at the gates, the visitor area and other security/maintenance places. In fact on the nursing floors you will not see a CO unless sombody triggers a body-alarm.
I am asking this because I wanted to know how it works elsewhere, and because i wanted to share my Insights doubleing as a nurse/CO with others.
I work on the psychiatric/psychotherapy floor of the Berlin State Correctional Hospital, we have about 30 patients/inmates divided on 3 separate stations, within the stations you will find the normal runnings of a psychiatric enviroment, except for lockdown in the night and while shifts change.
We cater to the whole prison-population, so we have violent offenders alongside people that did not pay their parking tickets, ageing murderers with alzheimers alongside minors with drug induced psychosis.
It is a challenging job, but I would not trade it for the world... plus, when I escort an inmate to a outside hospital, I get to carry a gun
