Some info on PHS?

I was just wondering if anyone out there works for PHS or has worked for them in the past. If so, can you tell me anything about them please? Benefits? Pay, etc. Management? Looks they may have won the bid for our prison. (I currently work for CMS). Thanks

Some comments on PHS

Hi Jazzylyn
I have a little info on PHS. I worked for them for about 2 months before another company took over the contract. There were the usual complaints that nurses always have about their jobs ie: management doesn't care; they don't pay enough; they don't know what it's like being down here in the trenches, etc. When a new company took over, I think most of the nurses realized that )PHS wasn't so bad after all. We always had plenty of supplies; every inmate had the medication they needed delivered in a very timely fashion; we had adequate coverage (of course it always seemed like we needed more help, but we had an RN , 2 LPN's and depending on the shift, fron one to 3 or 4 med techs (who were trained to do intake interviews, vital signs, accu-checks etc. Also, any nurses and techs appreciated that PHS considered that working 32 hours per week, qualified them to receive benefits. All in all, not bad considering what I have heard about the new company, Naphcare, who cut back both staff and benefits , and placed all employees on 90 days probation, and gave no credit for seniority when deciding who to keep and who to let go. So, my input is, "you could do a lot worse"!

Ripley

Hey Ripley,
I tried to email you the other day do not know if it worked. My mom works in Las Vegas (corrections) and was PHS now being taken over by Naphcare. I showed her your other posts on Naphcare. She got a Naphcare application in the mail and is wondering if she should run, they are way understaffed now, literally DON and supervisors working shifts just to keep them short staffed. Also they had union negotiators in there while it was PHS, signed cards and all, but were going back and forth about money. Now that Naph care is in probably will have to do all over. She loves her job but sorta knows what is coming down the pike. Any suggestions, timeframes, etc what happened when they took over?

Thanks Cheryl-

Phs

I have not worked for them personally, but several of my coworkers have. All I have to know is that whenever we have an opening in the Nevada corrections system, almost all of our applicants are from PHS. People who have worked for them complain about poor benefits, indifferent management, unfair distribution of work and preferential treatment for certain employees. They are apparently about to lose the contract for the Clark County Detention Center (the main jail for Las Vegas) because of staff complaints and poor performance.

Cheryl
Please find out from your Mom what she thinks of the PHS benefits, pay, etc. What is the time off, PTO, CTO, or regular vacation? PHS just got the contract in our area and nobody has heard from them yet. Some of us are trying to plan our 05 vacation, but have no idea what to expect. Any stuff you can find out would be great as there are many of us soon to be PHS employees frequenting this forum.
Thanks
pat
