Re: Prison Nursing

Being a correctional nurse can be a very rewarding expirience. You take care of the same population you would see in any ER or Long Term Care facility the only difference is these people are often times more violent or verbally abusive. No one really wants to die alone, and in most cases you are the person there caring for them when they take their last breaths of life. Corrections taught me some great life lessons. I am now alot less judgmental and loving toward all people from all walks of life. The down side is there is a TON of lawsuits in the prison setting, and the inmates actually WIN! Just chart, chart, chart, and then chart again! I am no longer working at the prison, but will never forget the time that I spent there taking care of those everyone else had forgotten.

Re: Prison Nursing

I'm a BSN, RN and an active police officer for 12 years and convicted a lot of notorious criminals. Now I'm considering to work as correctional nurse abroad for higher salary, if you could help me please consider my request, thanks.

Re: Prison Nursing

Correctional nursing is the best kept secret in the nursing world! I love it and have worked in DOC for 5 years! Great benefits! Fantastic security. Personally, I believe it is safer then the private sector.....where you care for the lower crust of society as well. These patients have just been caught and sentenced. They appreciate the care they receive!
