Pondering Correction nursing

Hi guys,

New to this site and I am glad that I found it. I have been reading a lot about correctional nursing in california and I am considering joining the ranks. But first I wanted to find out some more info. So here are my questions: I am a NICU nurse by training, would you think it beneficial to go to work on a general med-surg floor to hone in on my adult skills before going into correctional nursing? Also, what is your single most important piece of advice to someone just starting out in the correctional setting. Thanks a lot!

There are lots of advice in this folder. Take a look. It wouldn't hurt you to get some med -surge but you can still do it without it. It also depends whether you work for the jail or prison system.

There is a lot of info you need to read on this site. Look it all up.
And get 1 year of med surg under your belt, if you can. Good luck.
