I am writing to ask for contacts from all nurses working in Correctional Centres, prisons, gaols, detention centres etc.
Lets get together so we don't have to "reinvent the wheel" - lets share information so we provide optimal health care in our specialty.

I work in a medium secure unit (in the UK) with offenders who are mentally handicapped and have a mental illness. We are looking to network with others in our field.

I work at the Max / Receiving facility in South Dakota, USA. I have 7 yrs. experience as an LPN, 4 years as a Correctional Officer, and am currently working on my Associate Degree for RN.

I would be happy to hear from other correctional nurses and to share my experiences and concerns.

I have been a nurse in a maximum security correctional facility for 6 years a nurse for twentythree years. I would enjoy hearing from and about others in our specialty. By the way I am an ASN.

Not a correctional nurse, but like the approach you all are taking here.

Keep it going!

Was this thread forgotten about. I would like to be included in some kind of network. I'm a DON in a county jail. I do a lot of direct patient assessment and care despite my title.

LOL, I am the corporate director of nurses for a private medical company in texas. I also do a lot of direct patient assessment & care despite my title. As long as we are nurses, I don't think that will ever change. The good news is, at least I keep my skills.

I do have several Health Services Administrators at various units that believe they are an administrator only (despite the fact that when I hired them, they were told about covering shifts during absences and prn). It is hard to get them to change their attitude about this. I have found that the administrator that gets their hands just as dirty as the nurses receives a lot more from his/her nurses in return and a lot more respect!

I do a lot of patient care despite my DON title. I cover shifts and all for salary. Wish I was hourly.
