Males or Females

Which do you prefer? I have been working with males for about the past year and I am considering a transfer to another facility that houses females. I hear it's better, but I beg to differ because I have not always gotten along with females nor have I enjoyed being in the company of a lot women. In fact, I grew up with two brothers, no sisters, and I had mostly males as friends prior to marriage. I don't know it I could handle being around so many women...yuck.
But who knows maybe I'm being to hard on them...

If it isn't necessary for you to switch jobs, don't do it. If you do, the odds are you won't be a happy camper. Go with your gut. Dealing with women in the correctional enviorment is way more difficult than dealing with men.
Good luck in your choice.

Re: Males or Females

I have worked in jails where both sexes were housed and believe me, women are hell.

Re: Males or Females

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I would much rather take care of the 1600 males that we have than the 200 females that we had. Women are much harder than men hands down.........

I feel kind of like a sexist, but I have to agree with you. I've never worked in corrections, but I've worked in psych, and I'd rather have the men.

Wonder why that is?

Re: Males or Females

I have worked with both males and females in a variety of security classifications. I prefer to work with the men.The men are so much easier. The women have this amazing ability to know exactly which buttons to push and how to get under your skin. Granted you'll find people you like and dislike in both categories. All you can do is be a professional and not let them know you secretly want to strangle them.
Another way to ask this question- Would you rather be a sub at the elementary school or at the high school?
Good luck to you.

Re: Males or Females

I know some nurses who enjoy working with the women, but most of us would take the men hands down!!! Women are very emotional and complain about everything.... from food to a papercut.

Re: Males or Females

Wow...thanks for the input and after speaking with a family friend who has worked with women...I think it's more than safe to say I will not be working with female inmates. Thanks again.
