Looking to move to Raleigh,NC - HELP!!

I am hoping to move to Raleigh, NC in the next year or so and although I have always worked in an office setting I am thinking of changing my field to Corrections. I am an LPN and see that there seems to be a need for them in the Raleigh area which in encouraging. I just would love to hear from someone out there who can tell me more about the field of Correctional Nursing as well as give me some good insight into the Raleigh prisons. Ins and outs and all that kind of stuff. Anything at all is appreciated Thanks...

OH, and some info as far as starting salary if anyone knows would be WONDERFUL!

I've never worked in NC but was told that there are plenty of jobs for LPN's in prisons in Raleigh. I was told that they have trouble keeping nurses because they are short-staffed. I found correctional nursing to be very interesting. Have you applied yet for any correctional nurse jobs in Raleigh?

I have not yet applied to anywhere in NC but I hope to in the Spring. I wanted to move before school started for the kids this year but I guess it will be more like before school starts next year now as my husband wants some more experience in his job before making a move (he just got a promotion). It is just so beautiful there and corrections seems to be a place where they have a lot of openings and it has always interested me. My brother is actually a Liuetenant (sp?) at a prison in CT so I know some about the system itself.

I just started my psych clincials at the women's facility in Raleigh. They have quite a few LPNs. I really think I'm going to enjoy the next 6 weeks. Very, very interesting!

Hey,
If you want more info on correctional nursing in NC check out the website for the dept of correction here. All the prisons are looking for nurses, Raleigh is the main prison for the state, but there must be 6-7 in the sourrounding area.
email me if you want to discuss further. I work at the prison in Maury Nc. It is a medium custody 450 bed prison with a psych and chronic disease wings and ~200 general medium custody prisoners. There is a large minimum custody prison next door, and they are building a 1000 bed closed(maximum) security prison down the street. Corrections is good in NC.
